Tamer Ghoneim
A105 Blackletter Basics
Blackletter is one of the most dramatic letterforms in a calligrapher’s arsenal. This class will be a step-by-step walk-through of a complete minuscule and majuscule blackletter alphabet in a unique and approachable modern style. We’ll review recommended tools and the foundational strokes involved with composing each letter, then use these strokes to write each letter of the alphabet. We’ll learn about possible variations of individual letterforms and ligature considerations along the way. There will be a good balance between demonstrations of the forms and time to practice your lettering.
